Richard is a London trained Specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon based in Auckland. He qualified with distinction in both Medicine & Dentistry and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS).
During his training Richard gained experience in neurosurgery, plastic surgery and ENT surgery before ranking No.1 in the UK for selection into advanced specialist training in surgery of the Mouth, Jaw & Face (Oral & Maxillo-Facial Surgery).
His medical and surgical training were completed in London where he trained within several prestigious London units including King’s College Hospital, Guy’s Hospital, St. George’s Hospital and the Royal London Hospital.
Richard then travelled to Melbourne, Australia and completed an Advanced Surgical Fellowship in Orthognathic Surgery (Corrective Jaw Surgery), TMJ (Jaw-Joint) Surgery and Facial Trauma Reconstruction before moving to New Zealand.
Richard prides himself on adopting a caring, meticulous and ethical approach, offering evidence based techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients.
In addition to his private practice, Richard maintains a busy public practice, working as a Consultant Surgeon at Auckland City and Middlemore Hospitals with an interest in facial trauma reconstruction, facial skin cancer reconstruction and orthognathic surgery including the surgical management of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).
Richard lives in Auckland with his wife and three young children.

What is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon?
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a highly specialised field which requires both dental and medical degrees followed by general surgical training and then specialist surgical training. This pathway requires a minimum of 15 years to complete. It is a surgical specialty that focuses on the treatment of disorders of the mouth, jaws, face and neck.
